I like how you incorporated smaller strokes of red and yellow in the background to indicate trees in the distance. It adds a lot of depth and prevents flatness. It also helps your eye move through the composition.
I would suggest making this landscape instead of portrait. Right now the foreground dominates the piece and the background is somewhat neglected in the top third. A landscape would help include the background and tone down the foreground's boldness.
